Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing great. Came back after long time on this forum.

So, I completed diploma here in Canada, and currently working on Research Assistant (Part time) position. Also, I got a full time job which I will be starting in January. I am thinking to use the part time hours and when I get one year equivalent experience (from both jobs) I will apply for CEC. My question is, should I get the reference letter from my current employer (part time) right now, or at the time when I am submitting the application?

Thanks in advance guys. All suggestions are appreciated!!

At the time when you apply. Date on the reference letter could give an officer an idea about work duration you obtained. If you plan to quit your part time soon, you should get the reference letter on your last day. Some employers don't issue the reference letter for people who already quitted.

The letter is supposed to be "recent," but as long as it covers the full period of your employment, it should be useable. So getting it on the last day (or soon thereafter) is a good suggestion. Make sure it covers all the required details, and let the letter-writer know that sometimes CIC changes the rules, so you might have to ask for a revised version later -

It should some minimal hours per week (in your case of part time job you should check it).
Your reference letter should correspond to NOC description as well - this is very important, and there are rejections when there is no correspondence with official NOC description, see this http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t172731.0.html)
