Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
HI All

I am planning to apply in EE. I have few questions regarding Reference letter

I worked in two different companies. 1st company, I worked for 10 months and 2nd company for 2 years 10 months. 1st company is ready to give me a reference letter but 2nd company will not provide.

My role at work was Business Analyst in 1st company. I joined there as a "graduate trainee" (Designation). In second company though my role was Business Analyst my designation there was Software Engineer. I have my experience letter and resignation letter which describes only my designation and not my roles.

When i mailed NOC team to find my NOC for the roles, they provided me a NOC based on my designation and not on role.

They have mentioned the NOC code for my roles as "2173 Software engineers and designers". Though my designation at work was Software Engineer i was into a role of Business Analyst which matches the NOC "2171 Information systems business analyst".

All the roles mentioned in 2171 matches my role as a Business Analyst " - "Information systems business analysts and consultants confer with clients to identify and document requirements, conduct business and technical studies, design, develop, integrate and implement information systems business solutions, and provide advice on information systems strategy, policy, management, security and service delivery"

1. In my application for PR should i mention 2173 or 2171??

2. Which should be the exact match for the roles i have mentioned?

3. Will there be a problem if i mention any of these during the process of my application?

4.When i write my reference letter should i give my role as in designation (Software Engineer) or as in my role (Business Analyst)

5. If i give software engineer then the NOC should be 2173 or 2171?? Then what will i describe for my roles??

6. All my letters from office like experience letter, resignation letter has "Software Engineer". What should i do in this case??

Please help me in picking the exact NOC for the application which should not bring any problem to me

Expecting to hear from you at the earliest.

1. In my application for PR should i mention 2173 or 2171?? - Select an NOC which matches the roles rather than the designation and in your case it would be 2171.

2. Which should be the exact match for the roles i have mentioned? - Same as above. The same roles are referred to by different designations across companies/geographies, roles are more important.

3. Will there be a problem if i mention any of these during the process of my application? - Please only mention an NOC which is a close fit.

4.When i write my reference letter should i give my role as in designation (Software Engineer) or as in my role (Business Analyst) - Get reference letter as per actual role rather than designation.

5. If i give software engineer then the NOC should be 2173 or 2171?? Then what will i describe for my roles?? - Refer above comments.

6. All my letters from office like experience letter, resignation letter has "Software Engineer". What should i do in this case?? - That is fine.

Please help me in picking the exact NOC for the application which should not bring any problem to me - Refer above comments.

Expecting to hear from you at the earliest.

Thanks for your reply :)

To make my understanding clear

You mean, in reference letter i should be giving as Business Analyst and i should not mention my designation in it??

First, let's be clear - YOU do not write your reference letter. Your (former) employer does. Even if you prepare a draft for your employer, you need to be clear - it is your employer who is attesting to your experience, not you.

So you need to prepare the letter from their perspective. Your position/designation is what your employer says it is, that is not (entirely) linked to the NOC. The NOC is chosen on the basis of job duties and responsibilities, not the designation. So don't get yourself into a jam by trying to "cover up" your job title, because it simply does not matter (but misrepresentation does).

And if your employer agrees, there is absolutely no harm in having the letter say something like "Mr X's official designation was Software Engineer, but his role in the company was that of a business analyst (NOC...) His duties and responsibilities were as follows..."

Second, you need to be sure that the reference letter DOES include job duties and responsibilities that are consistent with the NOC.

Seconded!
