hi every one

i'm really lost and i hope that some one can help me
i work as a vfx artist and i didn't understand the concept of work permit.
since 2 years ago i start to send my resume and my reel to studios and most of them are interested by my work.
they ask me about my availability and if i already have a work permit , i explain that i will need one for my visa and i can't work without it , they reply that i need to get a work permit to start working with them .
how i'm supposed to get a work permit if they don't help me to get one?
is there another type of work permit?
thanks in advance for your reply

Some people qualify to apply for work permits with only a job offer:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-permit.asp?_ga=1.229244312.569960557.1389218091

If you don't fall under one of the categories above, then you will need the employer's assistance to get a work permit (the employer will need to obtain an LMIA before you can apply). If they employer isn't willing to go through the LMIA process then you'll need to find a new employer who is.

thanks scylla for your reply
but just to understand . so all what i need is a letter from an employer that say he want to hire me ? and send it to get a work permit?

No - that's not all you need. You most likely need an approved LMIA from the employer in addition to the job offer from the employer.

You can only skip the LMIA if you meet one of the criteria on the link I provided above.
