Hi,
I currently have a PR card, and it is about to expire in a month. I cannot renew it because I have not live in Canada for the required two years. I have to let it expire, however, I would like to reapply. What are the odds that the re-apply process would be smooth? I am a US citizen. Thanks in advance.

You can try to enter Canada, perhaps the border officer will let you in and you could wait until you have a new card.

From what I read in the forum, you cannot reapply unless you officially lose your PR status.

I am not clear, are you asking about (1) applying for a new PR card, or (2) starting a new application for PR?

If (1), get into Canada (if you're not there already) and apply to renew your PR card once you have accumulated the required two years during the previous 5 consecutive years.

If (2), the process might be more difficult this time, since you have already demonstrated that you failed to reside in Canada, as promised in the first application. Have a really good reason for failing the first PR.

But what type of PR do you have? If it is a spousal PR, and your Canadian spouse was with you abroad, you may be able to count those days toward your PR quota.

Toby, you are correct in the 2nd option.
I am a US citizen. I have a Canadian PR (Info Technology skilled worker), and I did not use the PR since I was not able to sell my house in US in order to move to CA.

I would like to re-apply for a new PR card (since I cannot renew the current PR, because I did not fulfill the requirements)
Would it be a hassel if I attempt to reapply?

Thanks
-Troy

Yes, because there are no IT jobs on the list of Qualifying occupations http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list

PMM......dude... I don't know how you got to be a "VIP member', but your response is horse manure

for some reason I am not allowed to post links..

Technology related jobs are under "Natural and applied sciences and related occupations" in Skill level A
Also, Nova Scotia's home page, under "Opportunity Sectors" indicates Technology as a high demand sector.

God, I hope you are not an immigration consultant.

You really don't know what you are talking about do you? There is a list of 29 occupations that are eligible for Federal Skilled worker. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list
I suggest you read the list. Do you see any IT jobs on that list? So without an Approved Employment option from a Canadian employer, you aren't eligible. The OP didn't ask about PNP programs.

I am awaiting your apology.

And your post is amazingly ignorant.

Because you are new, post a bit more and then you will have linking enabled - most SMF fora work like this (something a skilled IT guy might know?).

Technology related jobs are under "Natural and applied sciences and related occupations" in Skill level A
Also, Nova Scotia's home page, under "Opportunity Sectors" indicates Technology as a high demand sector.

As PMM suggested, you really don't get it do you...?

God, I hope you are not an immigration consultant.

Start reading here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
You are going to need the information, because with the attitude you appear to have, help from people here is likely to be pretty sparse.

Take the time to look through a very small percentage of PMM's posts, (via the profile page).
You may eventually realize that PMM is a good resource on immigration matters.

FWIW "hassel" should be "Hassle"; But clearly, the ability to spell is not mandatory when behaving foolishly.
I suspect you are the sort of person who would moan at a chef at the start of a meal (not a wise move) !

Suck it up, apologize and try to learn something; you have been on the forum a few days, bad attitude doesn't work well here.

Troy - it's already been said, but PMM is right. There are no IT jobs on the current list of occupations for Federal Skilled Worker. This means that if you want to immigrate using this occupation - you can only do so if you have a job offer in Canada. In other words, you can't immigrate as a federal skilled worker based on your experience and qualifications alone. Many employers are not willing to give out job offers. So I think you will find it significantly more difficult to immigrate via this route this time around.

Troy, though I am not a fan of PMM, I think you owe him (or her) an apology. Yes, you are right. I am sure it will be a "hassel" immigrating this time around.

What to do? Since you are a US citizen, drive into Canada with your US passport and sit tight here for 2 years until you are able to renew your PR card.

scylla, for arguments sake, I am curious, because you also mention that there are no IT jobs. But I see on "Skill Level A", it does mention technology. Whats the discrepancy?

For the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) application class, the only occupation list that matters is this one:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp#tphp idtphp

If you haven't check out this link yet - make sure you do. It will answer most of your questions.

However to make a long story short, if your occupation is on this list, you can apply without a job offer. If your occupation is NOT on this list, then you need an offer of arranged employment (job offer) to apply. There are no IT jobs on this list at the present time. Therefore you would need a job offer if you wanted to apply through the FSW class.

Adding to my note above...

Note that the 1,000 cap has been reached for the following occupation: 1122 Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management

This means that this occupation is essentially off the list and a job offer is required to apply.
