Hello,

I am extremely new to this board but I have genuine interest to be employed in Canada.

I am an American citizen living in the US. I have my bachelors degree and working on my masters in education administration. I have two years of teaching experience for teaching high school mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, Statistics, and Calculus) and by the time I apply I will have a total of 3 years of teaching experience.

I want to work as a school administrator in Canada to be closer to my boyfriend (we may end up being married). What do I need in order for this to go through? I tried looking on sites but I was unable to find anything relating to the education field.

Thank you!

You will first need to find an employer in Canada who is willing to give you a full time job offer.

That employer will then have to obtain something called a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). As part of this process, the employer will have to prove that the job was advertised for at least one full month and no Canadians could be found to hire or train for the role. Once the LMO application is submitted, processing time is around two months. If the LMO is approved, you can then come to Canada and apply for a work permit at the border. Note that it tends to be extremely difficult to obtain a job offer and approved LMO in the education space since there tend to be more qualified Canadians than there are roles. But by all means give it a try and hopefull you'll get lucky.

You should also review the requirements of the SWAP visa which allows individuals to work in Canada for a year without needing a job offer or LMO first. This may be something you qualify to apply for as an alternative.

Good luck.
