Hi all

If you complete two years out of five years , (that too at the end of five years.) and there is not enough days/months left to complete three years for citizenship

1) after renewal, do we again to complete to compete again two years +1years for Canadian citizen ship means clock will reset again

Or

2) can we complete one years in anytime after renewal to meet citizenship requirement in new PR Renewel

For example

First PR Card
(For example valid from March 2005 till March 2010
Years completed---Sept07 till Sept09 Two years and application for Renewal in Dec.2009.

Second PR Card
Valid from say March 2010 till 2015

Do again we need to complete 2 years for PR renewal or just one year to get Citizenship(Previous 2 years +current 1 years)

Comments please

With regards

Do not confuse PR residency obligation with the residency requirement for citizenship. They are not the same.

For the PR status, it's a rolling 5 year period. In the first 5 years you are PR, you need to be in Canada for 2 and after you are already PR for 5 years, it's always 2 years in the last 5 years. There is no reset of clock.

For citizenship application, you need to have lived in Canada for 3 years out of the previous 4. It does not matter if you get a new PR card in the meantime.
