My boyfriend and I have been going out for a while now and we are now "engaged". I was born and live in Canada, but he was born and lives in the Caribbean. He is 22 years old and I am 18. I'm about to finish High School and will be going to University starting in September. After we get married, is it possible for me to apply to sponsor him to come to Canada as my spouse, even though I have no job? When applying would I have to show proof of funds? Are there any factors that could cause our application to be denied?
I also wanted to know what is the process and the time length that it would take to do all of this? Thanks

there is no income requirement for spousal sponsorship.... i don't believe you can sponsor if you are presently on assistance or have an undischarged bankrupcy... you also believe you cannot sponsor if you are in prision or have committed a crime for which you have not received a pardon... the conditions are actually pretty clearly laid out in the guidebook for sponsorship, which will also explain the process... you should marry first.. there are medicals he must do, police records, and fill out all required forms...

timeline depends on where in the caribbean, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp gives guidelines..

should also add that you are financially responsible for him for 3 years, and for his dependants (if any) for 10 years should you sponsor him... this means that you will be required to pay back any claims he makes on public funds...
