Hi, folks

I tried to look for the answer by doing a quick google but got no luck, then some friend of mine advised me to post a thread here, I do hope it's the right place :)

My question is: As the expiry date of my Permanent Residency visa is May 19th, 2012 (it was issued on March 21st, though :o), anyway, I heard it would take up to 3 calendar months before I could get the PR card after I land in Canada. So, after May 19th, 2012 my Permanent Residency visa will expire, while most likely I do not get the PR card yet. so I wonder is that legal for me to stay in Canada after May, 19th until I get my permanent resident card?

P.S: I totally understand that I must go and land in Canada before 19 May, 2012, which is not a problem as I am setting off in 2 days.

Thanks in advance!

The visa stamped in your passport is for Canada entry purpose only. During landing, your COPR (that piece of document that you received together with your passport with the visa) will be stamped at the port of entry. That becomes your landing papers. Once you have entered you are already a permanent resident of Canada, and you now can stay in Canada for as long as you want, regardless of whether or not you have received your PR card. Your being a permanent resident has no expiry, only your entry visa which is stamped in your passport has the expiration. While waiting for your PR card, your landing papers (COPR staped at the port of entry) will serve as your proof that you have entered canada legally as an immigrant.
