Questions regarding canada student visa

Hello, I am an international student who goes to a university in Canada.
During the winter break(End of December), I am planning to go trip to New york for several day.
Unfortunatelly, as my student visa will be expired on 31st Dec, I wondered if there will be any problem with passing the border for this trip.
This is pretty big issure for me as I have already made all the reservations for hotel and transportation for this trip.

I think you can go back and forth USA-Canada with valid USA visa and Canada visa/study permit. Not sure though.

My room-mate went to USA with a valid usa visa but no valid canadian trv (just valid permit). He will be coming back today so I can confirm you about it later.
