Hi,

I am asking the following questions as my mom will be arriving soon, I just want to make sure that she is prepared mentally on what she has to face at the airport.
  1. What is it like arriving at Terminal 1 of Pearson International Airport right now?
  2. Are the lines for on arrival covid testing too long?
  3. How much time does it take to clear immigration and customs after these measures are done?
  4. When do they check the arrive can receipt?
  5. What additional questions do they ask at the POE for super visa applicants?
  6. Does she have to declare personal gifts like clothes, and does she have to pay tax/duty?
Any additional tips for travel/preparation are welcome.

Thank you in advance.

There are changes going on so it is somewhat hard to say. Hopefully testing will be in place at Pearson soon. If it in place it will take a while to get through the testing line. Is your mother doubled vaccinated? With what vaccine?

4.) As soon as they upload the documents and make the submission, they will receive the arrive can receipt on their cellphone immediately. Travelers will need to show the receipt during airline checked in and show the same to the cbsa upon arrival.
6.) Yes, they need to declare personal gifts. You can read the exemptions in their website

Yes she is double vaccined. Astrazenece Covishield. Got the ArriveCan receipt, it has letter "I" beside her name. I used the ArriveCan web. There is a new feature added for Toronto Pearson International to do CBSA advanced declaration, I did that too.

6. Declared personal gifts. It's clothing mostly and I think that's exempted.

I registered in advance for her Covid test in the airport as recommended by Arrivecan email receipt.

Even clothing can be expensive! Have you been to shops such as Chanel, Louis Vutton, Gucci, Canada Goose, etc. I've seen they are selling clothes like $2000 and much more per piece of clothing! I doubt they are exempted.

Agree. Gifts (i.e. your mom will not bring them back to home as she leave Canada) need to be declared. Make sure she is not bringing any food that cannot be imported.
