Good evening,

I graduated from a Canadian university in June and I am now trying to gain adequate work experience to apply for permanent residence thanks to a post-graduation work permit. I have three questions about the CEC that the agents of the call centre of CIC and the Classification Nationale des Professions could not answer or gave me contradictory information about:

-can I combine two different jobs for the purpose of my application?
-do these two jobs both qualify for this program (research assistant and student liaison agent)?
-although my visa states that unless authorized, I cannot study in Canada, is it possible to start my master's degree next year? Will the work experience I gain while being a student count towards PR?

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this message.

Hi there,

-can I combine two different jobs for the purpose of my application?
Yes, as long as both are under NOC 0,A,B
-do these two jobs both qualify for this program (research assistant and student liaison agent)?

you can try to find the NOC code for it. I am also a research assistant right now and I also plan to apply under CEC so im pretty sure it is ok

although my visa states that unless authorized, I cannot study in Canada, is it possible to start my master's degree next year? Will the work experience I gain while being a student count towards PR?
no because any work under while you are on your study visa (which you need if you want to do master) will not count

hope that helps :)

yes, if they both qualify.

RA - As long as the RA position was not while you were a student. The NOC for the RA will depend on the field of research (e.g. biology, economics, social sciences...).

Student liaison - maybe not. I don't know your job duties, but it looks like it might fall under NOC 1221, which is one of the 5 (currently) excluded occupations -

You can start your master's degree if you obtain a study permit. However, the work experience will not "count" toward the CEC program (at least if you study full-time).

Still, if you obtain a master's degree, that may help you qualify under other pograms (e.g. Ontario's PNP program).

Keep in mind that the programs change, and today's rules may not apply next year or in two years. For example, effective January 1, the "express entry" application system will go into effect; we do not yet know what that means for the CEC program (e.g. "excluded occupations" may be revised or eliminated).
