Hello Everyone!

I'm Canadian and I live in London, England with my (British) wife and I want to sponsor her so we can move to Canada. I've been reading through the guides and I'm a bit confused about a couple of things. Hopefully someone will be able to lend a hand.

I've got a handle on all of the forms that we need to fill out...but since we're both living in England and applying from England, does the application get sent to Mississauga or to the Embassy here in London? I think the process is we compile all of our forms and send them through to Mississauga who then review and forward to London...but please help me figure this one out if you can because I'm seeing conflicting instructions.

The Immigrant Guide (3999E) says that we need to schedule a medical for my wife and include the results in the initial application. The London Visa Office Specific Instructions (E33023) guide says quite plainly, "Do not initiate any medical tests until you receive the medical form and instructions.". So which is it? Should I get a medical appointment for her ASAP and include the results in our initial application or wait until London tells us to do so?

Many thanks,
Michael

all the files get sent to Mississauga; they will will transfer them to London for you once sponsorship has been approved.

As for the medical, I would go ahead and do it. They are good for one year and according to the london office's stats; 80% of cases are done in 8 months. If for some reason you're one of the few that takes longer, well, you just go and do it again in a year. I don't see a good reason to wait unless someone who's specifically gone through London can illuminate something I haven't thought of!

Thanks plumosa :)

I think you're right...we'll just go ahead and do it and if we need to do it again then so be it!

You have to send the medical with the application... we got confused in this too... we called - it has to go with the app to Mississauga. It will speed up the processing significanty.

Not that you need it with the great tips from the others, but just to chime in from another London applicant! :)

Definitely do the medical first, if I remember correctly, it was required. The doctor will give your wife a copy of a form and that gets sent with everything else to Missassauga.

Here's hoping that it all goes smoothly for you. We went through London earlier in the year and from sending to Missassauga to actual getting my husband's passport back with visa in hand from London, it took just under 3 months for us. We land tomorrow! Best of luck :)
