Question regarding the new Processing time

I noticed that the processing time for citizenship application is changed. For Step 1 - "File Creation and Initial Review" is now upto 9 months, and Step 2-"Citizenship Test and Final Decision" is 4-6 additional months.

I submitted my application on Aug.2010, and already got the 1st letter and the study guide on Nov.2010. Does it mean that the 1st stage is over? And I only need wait a few months for Step 2 (second letter)?

Yes you are done with the first step. If all si fine, the second step is that you will get invited to write the test. However, nobody can expect when this can happen. Just be prepared and read the guide and sooner or later you will get the letter.

aug 2010 to nov 2010, seems pretty fast to complete step 1. Where did you apply from?

I am tryin to understand if the province and the city from where you apply influence the processing time?

i submitted my appl Nov 2008, got acknowledgement in april 2009 and no news after....i applied from ontario and find it painful to be waiting all these yrs !

do write if you have more information on this

2. Have you called CIC Call Centre and asked for an update on your file?

I live in Vancouver, BC. But still the application form was send to Sydney, Nova Scotia.

I check online status all the time, but nothing changed since then. I didn't call CIC Call Centre, but will do around 5 month since I received the first letter.

1. Have you checked your status online on CIC website?



2. Have you called CIC Call Centre and asked for an update on your file?


doing both things above you may find out some more info about your case..

FYI.
I called CIC Call Center today, and they told me that even though I got the first letter and study guide, it doesn't mean that I have completed "Step 1 - up to 9 months". Also, they checked my file, and it's still in Initial Review stage. So, I have a long time to wait then.
