Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are waiting for Berlin to process my PR application (Common Law Partner).

I've got an Australian passport. When flipping through it recently, I noticed that it's very nearly full. Is it OK I get a new passport before Berlin request my passport to insert a visa, or should I keep my old passport and get a new one at some point once after I land in Toronto? My current one is still valid for another 5 years.

Many thanks in advance for any advice

Get them to put the visa in the old one as after you land a PR card will be coming, and if your passport is still good for 5 more years why would you want to pay for another.Once you have your PR card the visa is not valid anymore as you have the card.

Thanks for your advice iarblue

I just got a response from Berlin too (where my visa is being processed). For anyone else in the same situation, here's what they say:

It will not be a problem if you get a new one BEFORE a visa has been issued.
You must, however, send us a copy of the new passport as soon as you have obtained it.

As long as you have two empty consequative pages in the passport, that'll be fine - that's all they need to put the visa in. I guess if you do any travelling in between now and getting your visa, just try to make sure they don't stamp your nice empty pages!! :D

Consecutive? it actually takes up more than one page?

One page will be for the VISA..the next page will be for the IO officer in Canada ...where he stamps your entry..

i have four blank pages in my passport, but none of them are consecutive...do you think I need to get a new passport? The damned thing doesn't expire for 7 more years...
