My parents who are on a supervisa were only given 6 months to stay at the port of entry, and due to covid we did not want them to travel untill things become safe so we applied for their extension. We have received AOR so far but no decision since last 2 months. They are currently under implied status, but they plan to leave soon as they have some unfinished business back home. So my question is- If they leave before a decision is made on their extension, would that affect them on their return to Canada since they are under implied status(which means they are still legally staying) ? Will they need to stay in Canada untill their extension is approved ?
This has been bothering us for sometime so it'll be great if someone can guide us.

No, you lose implied status if you leave Canada and the application is deemed abandoned.

Thanks for replying. So they lose the implied status which is understandable if they are exiting Canada, but they have a 5 year super visa(passport expires in 5 years) so if they come back maybe sometime next year, will they have an issue at the port of entry since they left before a decision was taken on their extension.

You should also inform CIC if they do return home so they stop processing the extension. If they only received a 6 month stay that usually means there are concerns that they may overstay or concerns that they have no intentions of returning home. Would make sure they don’t return to quickly so they hopefully get a longer stay.

Thanks for replying...we were more concerned about them being refused entry the next time if they leave before the extension since they are currently on implied status. So I guess we need to inform CIC that they exited the country and their file for extension is closed and they can still come the next time and have no issue entering the country ? Right ? The extension is taking a long time now already been over 2 months and counting.
