Hello expert, I have a case and really need an accurate answer. Hope somebody can help me out. Thank you a lot!
I was sponsored my dad 2 years ago, and I know that I have to financially support for him 20 years.
He had a dependent (with his ex-spouse, this is not my mom) and this dependent was not accompany with him at that time (he doesn't has custody of that dependent)
Right now, his ex-spouse got accident and pass away, and He want to sponsor this dependent

My question is based on this situation, do I have to undertaking financial support this dependent also? as I am still under financial support for my dad? if yes, for how long?

my dad is a PR and low-income, He wants to improve his English right now, so He intends to come to ESL school and study as full-time.
As a PR, I was learning Eng in the past without any fee. What about my dad? Do I have to pay tuition for him?

when I was studying ESL full-time, and low-income, I was supported by the school (or by government, I don't really know) a monthly fund for living. My question is, if my dad apply for this fund, mean I have to pay back or not???

Thank you

You are only responsible for your father. As you've said, you're responsible for him for 20 years since his date of landing in Canada. So you have around 18 years to go by the sounds of it.

The financial obligation means that if he ever goes on social assistance / welfare - you will be responsible for paying this money back to the government. No - you don't have to pay anything if he takes ESL.

Thanks for your answer,
I am still wondering, because when I sponsored my dad, the income requirement also include that dependent, even he was not accompany with my dad. If just simple as you said, so that's really relief

What about the fund for low income, full-time learner? Can my dad apply that without me paying it back?

Is there any link out there giving me more information about financial support? which one is considered as financial support, which one is not?

Thank you so much
