Hi everyone,
I have a question about sponsoring my wife for PR.
I am a Canadian citizen but i have been living in Scotland for many years. My wife is a UK national and we have three children who are all entitled to dual citizenship. We will have been married for 10 years in July.
We have been giving serious consideration to moving to Canada for a few years, but have not started the immigration process for me to sponsor my wife yet but we have managed to put away some funds to help us get settled.
Recently, our circumstances took a different turn, and we would like to move sooner rather than later. My question is, can we go to Canada if my wife travels on a visitors permit and then we apply for PR from within the country ? Neither of us have any criminal records or significant health problems, thankfully, and we know that my wife would not be allowed to work for a time while the application is in progress. However, our situation is that my wife would not be working anyway because our children are still quite young. When we arrive I intend to start looking for work immediately, and we'll live off our savings initially. I am a qualified nurse, but I would do pretty much anything (within reason!) to support the family.
Any advice people can give would be greatly appreciated. I think we would be able to do it this way, but I can't run the risk of my wife and the children's mother being deported!

Yes you can apply from inside Canada with your wife on the 6 month visa exemption. You could apply either inland or outland, up to you. She wouldn't have to worry about being 'deported', more that its possible that they could refuse her entry at the point of entry as is intending to live in Canada and the CBSA doesn't always take kindly to people coming with no return ticket and intending to stay. Also especially if there is no PR application in process already.

Canadausa#11,
Thank you so much for that!
It's what I already thought, but I just needed to run it past people to put my mind at ease!
Thanks again!

I would strongly suggest you apply outland . It is a much faster process. By the time you pack up the house and finally want to make your move your wife could already have PR status .

Start the process now and come to Canada , With an applicant in hand it will make things a lot simpler to come. Return tickets seems to be cheaper than one way . Get returns for 5 months . Your wife then can apply for an extension of visitor visa . Come join us on the outland London Thread ..

Thanks Taffy,
I'm looking into that. Do you think it's best to submit the application now and then go to Canada on a Visitors permit? So she would then have to come back to London for the interview?

It is unlikely she would be needed for an interview.

Very rare an interview would be needed. You have been married long enough and have children together.

They only thing you need to do extra is prove your intention of living in Canada . So a letter from any family or friends that you would be staying with , any emails you can get inquiring about schools , day cares any jobs that you see, send them an email ... Only your wife will need a medical and a police check .

Try and get the kids Canadian passports . As from March 15th you need a eta to travel to Canada .
