Hi everyone

I am facing a problem with my council. I am in my home country and i hired an agent in india who is promoting business of a immigration firm in Toronto Canada. He made some promises regarding the immigration on behalf of that Immigration Law Firm and taken up our case.

Now my visa was refused two times and third time i prepared my documents by myself and filed with their cover letter in my home country. The visa was approved this time and it is WP for one year.

Now i come to know that in the retainer agreement there is a clause where it is mentioned that you have to pay 20,000/- as fee if you choose to hire any other law firm.

My question is what are the legality of this agreement signed ? I was in my home country when i signed. Can i hire another law firm now? Is there anything i need to worry about if i break the agreement? In my view the fee mentioned in the agreement is unfair.

I hope to find the answers to my questions. Sorry for my grammar or my bad english as i am typing on phone.

Thank you.

Regards
Sahil

You need to talk to another lawyer who can review the retainer agreement and tell you what you are legally bound to (or not) and what the consequences might be of hiring different representation. Retainer agreements vary. You need to have a lawyer review what you specifically signed. There's no generic answer here.
