question about my work permit (postdoc)

Hello,

I have been a postdoc for a few years already at the same university here in Canada; I have a work permit which has been renewed every year. It says on the WP that I am tied to my employer (the university)
Now what happens if I want to terminate my contract?
- I think that I can stay in Canada till the WP expires. Can someone confirm?
- I want to look for a ''real'' job in Canada: Can I convert my WP to an open one? what are my options?

I have a PR application in progress, but I don't think I will be PR until 6-8 months.

Q1: Yes, you are allowed to stay till expiry date of your WP.

Q2: Depending on your WP validity, this may help.

Otherwise if you have spouse as full-time foreign student or a skilled worker, you can go for O-WP.
