Hello.
In August our baby was born.
For 2 months now my wife is suffering from postpartum depression.
She's taking antidepressants.
Recently we received medical examinations forms.
The question is - if the postpartum depression can somehow affect our immigration process?
Thank everyone who know the answer.

Hey

Why dont you ask a doctor before doing the medicals cause these kind of situations need a consultation from an expert?
Hope your wife will become fine
Best regards,

You mean - ask the same doctor who makes these medicals?

Hi madpriest

I don't think the post-partum depression may affect your immigration process, I mean a lot of women suffer it somehow, it is quite a normal for the first month(s) after the baby born.

however if you want to be pretty sure I suggest you to call your nearest immigration's approved doctor and ask him/her about it.

PD: the best medicine for it is Love, let your wife know that you still love her... trust me it works!!!! it does.

good look

It would depend on the class you are applying under. If it is family class then a spouse or dependant child cannot be denied immigration status due to medical inadmisability.

If it is not family class then it would depend on the extent of the depression. If your wife required medication to control her depression then I doubt it would be a big deal but if the depression were to manifest itself as some larger mental health issue which required extensive counselling, hospitalisation, specialist care etc then it may be a big deal.

You should wait to hear back from the CIC - they will tell you if your wife needs more tests; it is unlikely they will flatly refuse her until they have conducted further examinations to measure the severity of the illness. Also, give it a few months then request your FOSS/CAIPS notes, you will see right away if the medical was passed.

Oh, and remember, love, understanding and encouragement are a good treatment for this sort of depression.

Eduardo Picazo, thanks a lot
tired_of_waitin thanks a lot. What's FOSS/CAIPS ?

And another question - we've received the medicals forms 2 months ago. Do these forms have any validity (i mean - are they due till...?)

first of all you should received a timeline within the medical docs, it states how much time you have in order to send the results to CIC. did you go to the doctor yet? if don't you may want to go ASAP you have lost 90 days already.

No, we haven't received any timeline with the medical docs.
I even looked yesterday again, and haven't find anything about timing.

Can you tell me more about the medicals? Where do you take the medicals? I'm in the US and want to move to Canada.

Thanks
