Question about Immigration

My boyfriend will be visiting Canada in December. He is from US. He hasn’t book any hotels because my step dad is allowing him to stay in our house. Does my boyfriend have to have a letter from my step dad that he is allowing my boyfriend to stay? Or will the immigration call my step dad for permission and confirmation?
