Question about funding

Ok so I got accepted into a college for academic upgrading which would take 14 months and after that I would meet the requirements to go for my goal which is Petroleum engineering. Anyways how do I prove to CIC I got funding? The finnish government gives me around $1000 per month + an additional $800 a month to cover living expenses and then I got my parents who are willing to support me if needed? The winter term starts JAN 4 so im in a bit of a rush here. If my ex girlfriends mother were to write a sponsorship letter stating I will live at their place and she will cover my living expenses is that something I could include in my application?

Also can I apply for a work permit during my time in Canada?

You need to prove that you have funds and/or scholarships to cover first year tuition + $10K living expenses. If you are going to be recieving funding from the Finnish government, provide an official letter confirming how much you will be receiving each month and for how long. If you want to show your parents will also be supporting you, then you will need to provide a copy of their bank statement along with a declaration letter from them confirming their support of your studies.

No - the letter from your girlfriend's mother won't help. You need to show that you can pay for your accommodation expenses on your own.

Thanks for that and do I qualify to apply for a work permit or not?

Yep, get a letter from Kela stating how much you'll receive per month and for how long. You won't need to apply for a student work permit unless you are doing a co-op program - see the "Work on campus" and "Work off campus" sections here. My university offers medical insurance for international students, but I actually opted out since I'm eligible for provincial healthcare. I'm sure this differs from province to province and school to school, so you need to check with your school. Good luck! Canada is a pretty good place for Finnish people. :)
