Hello, I have a question about proper way of filing taxes for my wife.
She is U.S. citizen but is living with me (Canadian citizen) in Canada. While we are applying for PR, we have extended her temporary visitor status by another year, so technically she is still a visitor here and never worked in Canada.
What would be the right way of filing our taxes? As far as I understand she files her U.S. ones where she declares me as her husband and I do my Canadian ones where I declare her as my wife? And just proceed as usual? Will there be any benefit to this at all reporting that we are married?

Thanks :)

I am a USC living in Singapore with my forgien (Burmese) spouce. I file my US taxes every year. My wife has never worked in the USA. Legally I have to file married but filing seporately. I have to disclose her name and her USA social security number.

It makes no difference, on the return, because I am not claiming her as a dependant.
