This question is on behalf of my sister.
My sister is a Canadian citizen and has been living in the UK for the past 8 years. She has been living with her boyfriend for over a year now. She's looking at moving back to Canada in the next month or so. They share a child together and she would like to sponsor both of them. Can her boyfriend and son come to Canada as visitors for the 6 month period and apply for the sponsorship/permanent residency from within Canada while visiting? Are they able to stay past the 6 months as long as the applications are pending?
He wouldn't want to go that long without working, so could he apply for some type of work visa while within Canada as well?
If this is all possible, what should they be telling the immigration officers at the airport upon arrival?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank You

Are they married?
She could bring them both to Canada and apply inland. When you apply inland you can send an application for an open work permit. Once she is approved as a sponsor he would then be able to work, assuming everything was ok with the permit.
Don't quote me, but I believe with inland applications once the application is in the system he is here on "implied" status, and therefore is not required to leave unless the application is rejected.

One word of warning - at the border they will be VERY suspicious if it looks like they are moving - you technically can't "move" here until your application is finished and you have COPR in hand. If they feel you are trying to drop roots here without being approved they may turn you around.
