Let's say CIC receive the application on day 1, what happens next? Is AOR the next step, and if so is that what takes around 60 days? Or do they send something before that just saying that it's been physically received (which I guess would be the AOR).

Now once AOR is sent to us, how long is the next stretch till they assess the sponsor and give their reply?

not sure if you apply for outland or inland.

1. CIC would not notify you that they receive your application.
You should send it through registered mail and keep the receipt as a proof that CIC received your file.

2. I was outland app (each VO may be different time frame)
it took 60 days to get a letter of sponsor approval letter with UCI no.

3. after you obtain UCI no. you can check out your status on CIC.

4. Inland app takes longer and outland app depends on VO.
while VO process your file, VO would correspond though email to request any supporting docs.

Thanks for that! Forgot to mention, we're outland.

I'm using the courier tracking system to ensure it will be physically received, so I take it after that the next step is around 60 days later which is when they tell us if the sponsor has been approved? Is that the same as AOR, or are those two separate things?

Yes, the AOR is the next step. That can take 60 days (or whatever time it states on the CIC website) I received my AOR in 8 weeks.
The AOR is either sent via email or mailed . It states that the application has been received.

The second step is to receive the Sponsor approval (SA). This document states the approval of the sponsor and also will let you know what Visa Office your application file is transferred to. I received my SA a few weeks after the AOR. Everyone's timeline is different, so no one can say for sure how long it will take.

I hope this helps!!
Smiles!

AOR - Acknowledgement of receipt
SA- Sponsor approval

You will receive the AOR first, then SA.

Thanks a lot! Makes sense now. Only thing is I thought the 60 day period was till you got a decision on SA.

The processing time listed on the CIC website states that it does include the assessment of the sponsor, but you will usually receive your AOR first and then the SA. Some members have posted that they never received their AOR, so I guess it may be different for everyone.

It took 69 days for me to get my SA. I got my AOR on the 54th day. I applied in Oct. I know that the time listed changes.

You can check the Outland spreadsheet to see the averages of time for other members.

Or they might never send you the AOR...

We never received one (not in spam or anything either) First we heard was our SA. Sometimes they don't. Another one of the charming mysteries of CIC... ;)

Thanks for all the replies!

Hopefully not a silly question, but does the approximately 60 day timeline refer to calendar days or working days?

I am going to say calendar days because that's how I counted mine and it matched pretty close to CIC's processing time.

Hello,
Can you please guide me ? I have submitted my application for Outland on 12 th January. Will I get my UCI NUMBER in the AOR??? And I wanted to apply for a visitor visa as I wanted to see my husband. So is it advisable to wait for the UCI OR apply for visitor visa without it

Please do guide

Thanks. So when we get the AOR (if we get it), will the UCI come along with that email? Does logging in to CIC with the UCI number show the status of your application?

And a question about ECAS - what actually is ECAS, and at what point will we need/use it?

Yes, you will have a UCI# & an application # on the AOR email. You can log in using either one of those with the Sponsor's info. It will give you a status on your application. It takes 3 days after you get the AOR to log in.
