Query: Post Graduate Work Permit: Toronto

Hi,

Need info about PGWP filing in Toronto.

1. Do we need to have a job offer before applying PGWP or can we just file the application once we get the transcript?

2. How much time does it takes to get PGWP?

3. After getting PGWP, do you need to apply for a different SIN (different from your off campus open wp)?

4. I have 3 month visa after my graduate expectation date. Is it a wise move to apply immediately after you graduate or wait for 1-2 months?

5. What documents we need to apply for PGWP?

1. NO, It's an open work permit, you don't need any job offer. You need to submit PGWP application within 90 days of getting transcripts/final grades/notification that you have completed all courses.

2. Depends, usually 2-4 weeks

3. Yes, apply for a new SIN card. Takes 2-6 weeks. Old SIN (for ON/OFF-campus/co-op work) will expire with your present study permit. As long as your study permit and off campus work permit is valid till the time you get PGWP, you can use Old SIN, but then New SIN required.

4. It's up to you. You need off campus work permit issued to you(which will be valid till your study permit's date) to work in that 3 months before post graduation work permit comes. You will need to submit your application for a Post Graduation Work Permit before your Canada Study Permit expires --- within ninety days (3 months) of receipt of written confirmation that you have satisfied the requirements for your program (the issuance of your final grades). If necessary, you can always request a one-time Bridge Extension on your Study Permit. So, you can extend easily 1-1.5 months by working at your job with the valid off campus work permit, till you receive your newly issued PGWP. Don't take risk of applying too late and if it seems that your study + present off campus work permit will expire before the PGWP comes, apply for a one time Bridge Extension on your Study Permit (although that's mostly can be extended to max overall 90 days and since you already have 90 days, my guess you won't be able to extend) and hence you will be in a very difficult situation.

I had few questions bugging me and would be grateful If some one answers them

My course ends on 31st dec 2012 in toronto and my study permit is till 31st march 2013....

What I m thinking is to visit 1 month in India for vacation in Jan 2013 and after coming back to Canada apply fo PGWP

A) Is it fine If I go to India without applying WP or Is it like canadian Govt wont allow me to reenter ... Because I have completed my course(Hence Student Visa Not to be used?)and dont have WP filed either.

B) If I apply for PGWP before going on vacation to India and then can I re-enter canada without Job(Would be having only Job WP).....Or it like on their discretion as wont have job offer in hand

C) In short once I get PGWP ...Can I leave canda and re-enter without job in Canada..

D) How much time does it take to get PGWP ...Once we apply...
