Dear members of the forum,
I recently asked a question regarding the passport request stage for the PR status/visa stamp.
I wanted to clarify something - that it is possible to send passports by post for the PR stamp. The reason I am asking is that I have read elsewhere on the forum that you need to re-enter Canada as a landed immigrant and have your passport stamped on arrival to Canada as a permanent resident - or am I getting things confused?
Thank you.

Once your PR visa has been issued, you either needs to re-enter Canada to become a permanent resident or schedule a landing at an office inside Canada. It is not possible to do this by mail.

Thank you for your reply.
I should clarify, what I meant was that I have been told in a previous message that I can send my passport and my son's passport for the PR stamp to the visa office at my country of origin, rather than attend in person and arrange for it to be couriered back.
But I gather from your answer that I can then apply to become a resident inside Canada without actually having to leave....is that correct?

Yes, you may send yours/your sons passport via post to your VO (check your home countries regulations regarding mailing passports to ensure it is legal). When you get those passports back, you will have a visa 'foil' in each of them. You can then go to your nearest border crossing and 'flagpole' to 'land'. If you are not in driving distance of a land border, then I would suggest calling your nearest CIC office and find out about scheduling a 'landing' appointment.

The PR visa in your passport allows you to 'land'. They are two different situations entirely.

Thank you for your reply.
What do you mean by checking to make sure it is legal to send passports - do you mean that I would be abroad without a travel document, or something else? Thank you.
