16 months for LA? Is that total time elapsed from time of application, or 16 months from the time of approval? Very bad news...

It is in addition to the roughly 28 days for the sponsor approval. Apparently the way to read that number is that is the time it takes to process 80% of the applications.

PS Seattle is 11 months. Just sayin'

USA goes through Ottawa. The time is 13 months. It's about mid-range for speed. File were transferred to LA when Buffalo closed. Before that, you could pick the office, but now it's all Ottawa. They occasionally send a file to the local VO for "special processing" but that rarely happens. I think we have one person on the spreadsheet that goes gotten transferred to LA since the transition to Ottawa was completed.

13 months means 80% of applications are finished in 13 months or less. For normal applications it seems 7-8 months is a much more realistic time. If you need an interview or the VO continually loses your paperwork (and that has happened to a handful of applicants), that will take longer. Other things, like not paying all fees upfront, not including the medical or police check - all of these extend your process - and if you don't include a complete application, Ottawa is no longer held to 13 months for your processing!

Basically, if you put together a good application package with sufficient proof of a genuine, ongoing relationship, you will most likely be finished well before 13 months.......
