Communities prepare to welcome Syrian refugees

September 6, 2016 – Ottawa, ON

Communities across Canada are gearing up to welcome Syrian refugees this fall as the pace of arrivals in Canada will be increasing in the coming weeks. Work to process Syrian refugee cases has continued over the summer and thanks to this effort and the delivery of pre-arrival orientation information sessions, more Syrian refugees are now ready to arrive in Canada.

Since the start of the Syrian resettlement initiative, many communities outside the traditional network of cities and towns that welcome government-assisted refugees have expressed an interest in helping refugees resettle and integrate.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent in Ontario applied to become a “Welcoming Community” through the Community Partnership Settlement Plan process and was recently accepted.

Chatham-Kent will work with the local Resettlement Assistance Program service provider organizations in Windsor and London to help refugees resettling in their municipality. This provides access to community services and supports to help these newcomers adjust to life in Canada.

Communities can expect an increase in arrivals to begin in mid-September. Approximately 6,000 more government-supported Syrian refugees (which includes both government-assisted and blended visa office-referred refugees) will arrive by the end of December 2016 along with privately sponsored refugees whose cases have been finalized.

Will it depend on what you come from and depending on that, What is your VO. & processing time, also there is the question of your capability to support your family financially & also there is the question of coping with & integration (at least from Family sponsorship officer point view), also some of us (including me) been (and some still are) very busy and stressed out about the outcome of this processing. that they didn't actually pay attention to the search for love & settling.

I been told that they ease the processing of family sponsorship program, but I didn't know anyone whom tried that program recently. how it's going with you? I am very interested in hearing about your experience.

The most important point is that your financial capability to apply visitor visa for your spouse. Yes, it sometime depends on where are you from and what is your noc code, but mostly financial stability comes first. During my CSQ application I'm married and I still use my wife name as non accompanying member. In a CSQ interview, officer asked me why isn't your wife accompanying you? I simply said she is studying so she will join later. Officer replied ok and issued CSQ. So just go ahead on ur life decisions without trouble.

How long did it get for them to request your passports from date of medical if they have already requested the passports.

My medical results were received on 4 January 2016. It's been 8 months and still nothing.

I've recieved AOR last Saturday. (Surprising that they work Saturday)
- File received at Sidney: June 1st
- AOR email: September 10th

If you want to sponsor your wife PR, you must live inside Canda until she gets PR. Well, if you are Canadian citizen, you can sposor your wife while you live outside Canada.

Isnt that illogical move by CIC, after marriage a husband and wife are expected to be together, so if she is not in canada why does a husband who is PR holder needs to be in canada. I thought after getting the PR, il sponsor her and live outside canada 2gether until her PR gets approved. Kindly let me know if this is possible.
