This sunday, I was charged with 11s(y) public intoxication in Calgary...i contacted with the police because i lost my home keys..my other roommates were sleeping...i did not want to disturb them... police asked my id they left me at my home...also..they give a ticket of $115, i have to pay voluntary payment and no court appearance is needed...i am here as an international student.. this will effect my future in canada... and this will create any effect on my Permanent Application in future..i an still studying. is this a criminal record in Alberta..how this will effect my profile...is this will create any problems in getting PR in future...

I am very much stressed out, please help.. Thanks a lot.

My opinion is, since this involves PUBLIC, this is an offence that can be detrimental to the people around you.
We all know that it can be a security issue with CIC just like DUI or speeding.
Paying the ticket and no court appearance makes you still guilty about it. Court appearance happens when you are not agreeing with what the ticket is all about and that you have to explain your side in the court.
We don't know if that can be an issue later on or the VO might consider it, but for sure you have a record with RCMP.

Ok I am going to sound less alarmist than the previous answers. Yes, public intoxication does not look good on your criminal record, yes it can be a pain for your PR but I don't believe that it is as bad as a DUI. While you are a threat to other peoples' lives in a DUI, you are barely one when drunk walking in the streets. You might have looked like a fool to other people but it is certainly not such a bad criminal offence. Midway between a speeding ticket (which does not do anything to hurt your PR except if it was an outrageous speed) and DUI.
You are a student, being drunk is part of the experience I guess. I understand your concerns though. Why don't you call CIC and ask an agent about it? Or call a lawyer (might be pricey)?

Hi jugnu

There is nothing to worry about....it will not affect your application.
