Hi,

Can anyone please suggest what is the process of getting health card for Ontario. We are moving to Canada and need help on insurance part. How can we get coverage on Day1 of landing for kids specially. How long it will take for health card to be issued.

For one of the kid PR sponsor applications needs to be filled since kid is newborn, how can medical assistance be provided.

Also, please suggest process of filing unemployment for government assistance for spouse

Go to a Service Canada office as soon as you've returned to Canada and you can apply for a health care card immediately for the family members that have PR. I believe they will give you a temporary number while you wait for the card to be mailed which will take a few weeks.

The kid who needs to be sponsored for PR won't qualify for a health care until PR has been approved. You'll need to buy private insurance to cover emergencies for this child.

Employment Insurance is only available to individuals who have been workined in Canada and have lost their job in Canada. So if you are just moving to Canada now, your spouse won't qualify for this specific coverage.

If you aren’t planning on moving to Canada with your wife until you find a job in Canada you’ll need to be prepared to support both households.
