Proof or relationship.. little predicament.

So I am in a little predicament. I am to prove that I am related to my uncle. So I got both my dad's and uncle's birth certificate.
The problem is my dad's birth certificate only has his mom's maiden name and no father's name while my uncle has both my grandpa and my grandma but its her married name.
The other issue is that my grandmas marriage certificate got burnt up in a fire a couple years ago.

How should i approach this? Can i attach a letter stating that the documents are missing?

Yes you should provide a LOE explaining what happened. Can't you apply for a copy of your grandparent's marriage certificate? I had a similar issue some time ago - I needed my parents marriage certificate - and I was able to get a copy.
