If a PR has been outside of Canada during the 5 year window, they can usually have those days count towards their Residency Obligation (R.O.) if they are accompanying their Canadian spouse or common law partner. There has been much debate if this also applies when it was the Canadian spouse or common law partner that was the one that chose to accompany the PR.
