Proof of Relationship requirements for Spousal OWP (Outland Sponsorship / AOR received)

Hi everyone,

I recently received my Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) for my Outland Spousal Sponsorship and am now preparing my Open Work Permit (OWP) application. My wife is a Canadian PR and I am currently in Canada with her.

I’m looking for clarity on the "Proof of Relationship" section for the OWP. Since a full evidence package was already submitted with the initial PR application, I’m unsure how much to include now:

1. Is the Marriage Certificate sufficient, or should I re-upload the supporting evidence like chat logs etc?
2. Cohabitation Proof: Is it mandatory to prove we are living under the same roof for the OWP stage? I’ve recently moved and opened a bank account/mobile plan but I don't have the first statements or bills yet.

If cohabitation proof is required and I haven't received my first utility bills or bank statements yet, what are the best alternative documents to provide?

You usually do not need to re-upload the full relationship proof package for the OWP if it was already submitted with the PR application. Most people include the marriage certificate + AOR, and sometimes a few recent photos or chat logs as extra supporting proof, which can still help strengthen the application.

For cohabitation, it’s good to include some proof you live together. If you don’t have bills/statements yet, you can use:

Lease/rental agreement
IDs showing same address
Mail addressed to both of you
Bank account or mobile plan setup confirmations
Insurance/employment documents with address
Letter of explanation about the recent move
