Dear Qarax ,
I am from Nepal. I have got visa on March 2nd 2012 under AINP family stream .Now i am planning to land in calgary international airport on may second week 2012. We do not have such Relaible bank to open account such as scotia bank to show the POF. As resident of third world country how should i show the proof of fund at the POE.Now the standard cost has been slightly raised and it is more than 11 thousand CAD.So sholud i bring it all cash or what would be the best option for me.it has been written that if you bring more than 10000 CAD we have to explain to IO or not. Please do share so that it would be helpful to me at the time of entry .One more thing i am landing in alberta province should i have to make temporary health insurance or not.

Hi,

1. Take the 80/20 route. 80% in bank draft/s, 20% in cash or TCs.
2. There's no 'explanation' required. U r free to bring-in as much funds as u desire/afford. U'd receive a 'Customs Declaration Card' in the flight, u'd need to fill the column on it reg. ur monies. That's about it.
3. No, not required. In Alberta u r covered from Day-1 of ur landing.

All the best!

Hi,

Is it illegal to take 100% cash?

As per rules...u hv to declare the cash value if it exceeds CAD 10,000, at the time of landing. Failing to declare is subject to legal consequences.

U can carry unlimited cash to canada. But be careful at your homeland where in most of countries, there is a restriction / limit to carry foreign currency. Like in UAE, u can not carry more than USD 10,500 per person while travelling

When we show proof of landing funds do we need to show how we obtain the funds.

Such as bank receipts on foreign cash exchange

No, unless u r carrying a million or two.

Hi Qorax,

I have applied under FSW3 in 2010 and now working on PGWP from 2011. At the time of application I have declared only CAD 7000 as POF. Now, I have got MR and have been asked to send updated POF. Now also I dont have that much money to show for me and my wife. But, my wife and I are working. I am working on a contract basis. Should I still need to show POF of CAD 13876 or our employment contracts, pay stubs and Tax return file for 2011 will suffice along with declared amount?

Thanks
Mohan

As u r working in Canada - POF is immaterial to u. Show what u have.
-Replied ur PM as well.
