Hello all,

Just a quick question. My partner and I are currently living in Germany and I am on a visa here. One of our proofs of cohabitation was our IDs. I recently needed to renew my visa, and got a new ID with a new “Issue Date” on it. My question is, do you think this is fine if the issue date now shows as this year rather than in 2020? I luckily still have a photo of my old ID, but I needed to hand it in.

I ask because I am not sure if they see the “issue date” and our address beside it, if it looks like I’ve only lived at the given address since that date…if that makes sense. Should I also include my photo of the other ID? Or a written explanation? Or both?

thank you :)

Send both, so the officer can see the old date, but...that may not be compelling evidence, IMHO. Hopefully you have other things like a rental agreement/lease, banking records (for both of you) showing activity (ATM withdrawals, shopping debits in your community, etc.) as this would be `Active' evidence, versus passive like your ID.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, we have other evidence, this was just one that I wasn’t sure on :) but will defs include both for their reference.

Things like bills with a date and address on it from your whole cohabitation period and rental agreements that you have both signed over a year ago are better proof.
