hi there.
me and my bf are in common law relationship for a little bit over a year.
when i moved with him i never got any mail or anything else. all bills are paying his family. i have a few letters around christmas time, and few bills on my name to his address around christmas time. we have his Moms letter saying that i moved in here last april 2011. is that enough proof for address? i have bank statements maybe starting from last october/december with my current address, because i got mine statements trough e mail, and i never thought of changing address in the bank because i was too lazy i guess.

thank you very much everyone

Doesn't sound like you have enough to prove that you have cohabitated for a period of at least one year. You need things like a lease agreement with both names, utility bills with your names on them, official documents like drivers' licence with the same address, etc. Even if you are living with his mother, the three of you could fill out a rental agreement with your names on it proving when you moved in . . . although that shouldn't be the only evidence you submit.

Remember, when you apply common-law you have to not only prove that you have a "genuine" relationship, you have to prove that you meet the qualifying criteria of common-law status. If you don't provide enough evidence of that, you will be asked to attend an interview to answer questions and provide more support of your claim. Better to wait, if you don't have what you need now, until you do. It's not that difficult to produce the types of evidence they're looking for - just takes a bit of effort on your parts. If you don't want to wait, get married. A valid marriage makes you immediately eligible to be sponsored without proof of cohabitation. You'd still need to provide evidence of "genuine" intent, but there is no co-habitation requirement when you apply as spouses.
