I am in a rather peculiar (and lucky) situation because I am a US resident, and a Swiss, US, and Italian citizen and hold passports to each of these countries. I am in the application process for an internship in Montreal and my prospects seem good but I have no employment confirmation as of yet. The internship would start September and end in December and I would only enter Canada if I am accepted into this internship.

Because the start date is approaching soon, I am wondering how I can most quickly process a work permit. From the research I've done it seems like the Young Professionals route (as a Swiss citizen) is best and I am eligible as a 22yo uni student (in the UK). Currently, the pool contains 2 people and prospects for a work permit offer are "excellent". The only thing I'm missing is an employment offer but once I have that in place and am in the pool how long should I expect to wait until my work permit is finalized and I can enter the country? Based on my circumstances do you think there might be a better way? Are there ways to negotiate speedier processing?

I appreciate any insight!

Once you have been selected from the pool and have submitted your completed application, processing time for IECs is typically around six weeks. I don't know how long it will take to be selected from the pool once you enter. I think this is probably your fastest way of obtaining a work permit. There is a SWAP visa for Americans, however I believe it requires that you have recently completed school in the US - I don't know the related processing time.
