Hi All,

I am ready to apply for Canada Immigration from India, but I got confused at the last stage.

My Husband's name is : Tariq Ali Khan

My Name is : Meena Umar

Add my Son's name is: Mohd. Aaban Khan

I dont changed my last name after my marriage. So accordingly all names are in different patterns.

But in my son's Birth Certificate they have mentioned his Mother's name as " Meena Khan", and accordingly his Passport got into Objection.

So I am standing no where now.

Please guide anyone what should I do. Should I get my last name change to Meena Khan and in case I have to do that what other formalities would I be following as I dont want to kill my time.
I am already very late.

I would be needing my last name chnage on my Passport and my Husbands passport. Is there anything else I would be doing as everywhere I am Meena Umar.

Also will it affect if my sons name spells as Mohd. inplace of Mohammad and he dont have Ali in his name similiar to his father's name.

Please guide.

Re: Changing Name after Marriage

Dear meena
I may state what i would do if i were in your position.

As you did not apply yet, you should correct your name in the passport. You can correct your name in your child's birth certificate also. Your academic certificates, nationality certifiucates etc. name must be as Meena Umar, not Meena Khan, right ? If you use Meena Khan in application form, you must provide an explanation to CIC for dissimilarities of name (Umar & Khan), which will make more trouble in future.

Better you consult this with your husband about my suggestion.

Remember, you have to show all proofs for information that you will provide in application. Spelling of names etc. will also be checked by CIC. Do not mention anything in the application that you will fail to prove.

Let us know your decision.

Thanks.

Re: Changing Name after Marriage

Thanks Syed for your reply.

I understand your suggestion and it seems to me correct.

Fine I would change my last name on my Passport and my Husbands Passport too(he changed my last name in his Passport).

But as my son's Birth Certificate has already been issued it would be tough to get it replaced, but I still I would try for the same.

You have not mentioned about his name as Mohd. in place of Mohammad. Is this wrong way to write.
Also how it would affect not having ALi in his name.

Do you have any idea how long will it take to get my name change on my Passport. My Issued Location is Ghaziabad.

Looking for the reply.

Re: Changing Name after Marriage

Dear Meena
Similarity in father's and son's names is not mandatory or there is no rule. Missing Ali from your son's name will not create any problem. Actually Mohd. in place of Mohammad may not create any trouble, because you can explain it to the CIC & they probably will be convinced.

But try to avoid anything that requires explanation to CIC. I heard from a source that CIC is not interested for interview of the candidates, because it is troublesome for the visa officers. Moreover, visa officers sometimes miss to read any explanation letter as a suppoting documents.

I tell you again, fill in your application form as per your documents & do not go beyond that.

I have no idea how long you need to correct the passport. Pls. talk to the officers of passport office.

Best of luck.

Hi Meena,

For change of name on Marriage Certificate you need to contact office of SDM, Ghaziabad. They will guide you. For changing the name on Passport, Regional Passport Office will guide you. You can ask them to let you know the required procedure and follow their instructions.

Good Luck.

Re: Changing Name after Marriage

should not be a problem, Meena...

I'm not sure about the Muslim Marriage Act, but as per the Hindu Marriage Act, the marriage certificate has 2 lines for wife's name - Old Name and new Name.

Just get your marriage registered with your pre-marriage and post-marriage names in it and Canada accepts both names in different proofs... you should be good with it...

for marriage certificate, you need to have marriage invitation card, marriage photos, 2 witnesses of marriage, some nominal fee (some states take cash, others a bank deposit receipt in their account) and a few other docs depending upon the registrar you are applying at to appear before him at a pre-apponted time.

He might ask a few questions as interview to ensure there's nothing foul in the application.

The Marriage Certificate will be issued in about a week's time (with an add-on fee :) )

Hi,

you can definitely apply from where you are residing now. Suppose somebody got married in Punjab and he is presently residing in New Delhi, so he would apply to his nearest SDM/DC office. There is a proforma for the purpose, just like mentioned by aanbaan. There will be two affidavits from husband and wife about declaration of their Marriage. There is a nominal fee of Rs.100/- or so. You need two photographs of marriage ceremony. Three photographs of each wife and husband. One copy of Invitation Card (if available). Two persons having PAN Cards for surety. They will call you on a fixed date. After verifying the facts they will call you again for collecting the Marriage Certificate. That's it.

Good Luck.

Re: Changing Name after Marriage

Hi,

I am writing back on my previous comments.

If I dont change my last name and leave it as it was before Marriage will there be any problem in my Immigration.

Also, on my son's birth Certificate it shows as Meena Khan in place of Meena Umar. If I reissue his Birth Certificate with my name 'Meena Umar' will it work. And I can apply for his Passport with my previous name????

I am very confused.

Please help.

Please guide anyone.
