Hi,

I have a canadian PR stamping on my passport. If I have to travel from US to India, do I need a transit visa. Please note I just have a visa stamping for PR not the PR card.

Thanks!

I don't get it... how would a Canadian TRV have anything to do with a trip between USA and India?

It doesn't matter.

I am sorry. I think I wasnt very clear in my main message. I am an India citizen, studying in US. I want to travel to India in May on Air Canada via Toronoto. I recently got PR stamp on my passport, but I have not got the card. Do, I need transit visa for canada?

You don't need a Canadian transit visa if you initiate your PR status (upon showing your PR stamping on your passport) when you interchange at the Canadian airport.

Hi steaky,

You have no idea how much relief your reply has given to me & my husband.

Sorry to ask but are you 100% sure about this?

But wouldn't that be problematic?

Immigration Visa is good only for one entry and once used he can't use it again when he comes back. As he is not eligible to get a TRV (as he is a PR) but has no way to show this to the CBSA officer (or the airline, really) he will be denied further entries until he gets his PR card unless he applies for a travel document. Yes, but at least when he initiate his PR status he can apply for a travel document at the Canadian consulate in India without problem. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that he would be able to get a Canadian transit visa (before his flight in May) if he decides not to initiate his PR status.

Hi,

I have applied for transit visa but its been a long time and I haven't hear back from them. In case I do not get transit visa by then I will be able to go from US to India. But then how about my return visit? What will I have to do?

Thanks!

Like I said, you would have to initiate your PR stamping at the Canadian airport. On your return trip to Canada, you would have to get a PR travel document (since your passport is not visa exempted and you won't possess the PR card yet) from the embassy/consulate before the flight.
