LANDED..........
20-07-2014
I landed on 20 July.
Now remember I have travel plans outside Canada in Sept.
One trip to US for a weekend in early Sept.
And another longer trip outside North America later in the month.
I come from a visa-free status country.

Reading through Guide 5529, I see the travel document is applied for only outside of Canada.
How do I arrange for re-entry prior to departure?

Do you need a travel document to enter Canada if you are holding US passport?

You don't need to arrange anything. Being visa-exempt, you can return on the strength of just your passport as if you were a visitor.

From what I have read so far, if traveling across a land border by private car, you can just present your landing document that was issued at landing.

It's the return to Canada by air that is the problem. For this, a Travel Document must be obtained. The Travel Document my only be applied for outside of Canada. This presents a problem when absent from Canada only over a weekend as the consulate is both closed and does not allow sufficient time to apply for and obtain the travel document. This Travel Document requirement applies to anyone, regardless of their country of citizenship. Hmmmmm.

Hi,

As the other guys said, you don't need a travel document as you are from a visa exempt country.

Thanks.

As I stated above, visa-exempt PRs do not require a PRTD to travel to Canada, even when flying.
