Hi everyone,

I want to apply to Permanence Residency through common-law as my boyfriend is a Canadian resident. I would like to ask 2 questions:

1. Why do some people apply to PR in-land? I was planning on applying out-land as the processing time is only 8 months and in the meantime I can stay in Canada as a Visitor and still live with my boyfriend. I have read that In-land applications take way longer, so I was wondering why some people do it.

2. To apply out-land, are this the documents that I have to send? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#immigrate

I am a bit confused.

Thank you very much.

1 - You are visa exempt to Canada, so it's very easy to enter and/or maintain your visitor status here, with no special requirements. People from some other countries require special visas and need to meet certain requirements to visit Canada, so once they are in Canada and want to stay with their spouse during PR processing, they need to apply inland. If they applied outland they may not be able to renew visitor status and would be forced to return to their home country.

2 - Yes. Fill out forms for Parts 1, 2 and 3.
