Hi. I am a PR in Canada (been PR since 2010..I know...will be applying for Citizenship soon.). I have just submitted the Spousal Sponsorship (outland) for my wife and I am planning to go on vacation in June for 1 month to see her. I have read that it is not recommended to travel during the sponsorship period, how true is this? Are there documents/links that exist to support this? Has anyone actually been denied/refused because they went on vacation for 1 month? I don't want to cancel the trip if possible, but if the risk is high..I might consider it. Can't seem to get through CIC call center to ask them directly. All that I have read so far have been a lot of -possible, -probably, -maybe.. If you were approved still even after taking a long vacation, I'd like to hear from you too.

Thanks.

Inland applicants are advised to remain in Canada during the duration of the process.

Outland sponsors are free to leave Canada, but ONLY if they are citizens. Since you are not yet a citizen, I don't believe that you are technically able to leave for that long of stay, until the PR has been approved, but... I was wrong once before.

Okay, maybe twice before. ;D

Sponsors who are PRs must remain residents of Canada during entire processing time. During this time they are allowed to travel for short/temporary vacations for work, family, vacation, etc.

However nowhere does CIC define what short or temporary means. So basically if someone at CIC noticed you had left, and decided you were no longer resident of Canada, then they could make the decision to cancel your sponsorship.

IMO a 1 month trip is pushing it, but will probably not trigger any cancellations. To be safer I would stick to trips less then 3 weeks. But CIC is not keeping a daily log of when you leave and enter Canada. And really what anyone thinks on this site is just a complete guess, you won't get any guaranteed answers.

:o :o Thanks guys for your replies. Actually I had to secure a month long leave because I will be attending my brother's wedding and my wife and I will be celebrating our anniv. Work already approved the leave so I may get an extra week off should I decide to go under 1 month out of country, though I'd rather much squeeze my vacation down to the last minute with my wife. Maybe others have positive experiences with regards to this, I'd like to hear from them too.

I haven't tried a month yet, but I was gone for two weeks, and it was okay.

Same here. Almost 2 weeks. No issues at all.

Have someone in Canada get your mail while you are gone. If anything comes from CIC they can send it to you right away, so you won't then miss a document request or whatever.
