Hi everyone, looking for advice on PR renewal.

• • PR since: March 9, 2023
  • PR card expires: March 22, 2028
  • 730 days completed: December 5, 2026
  • child needs to travel overseas for studies before December 10, 2026.

Can he apply for PR renewal on December 6, 2026, after completing 730 days, and then travel overseas? We’re unsure when he’ll be able to return to Canada in 2027.

or if he manages to visit Canada for a few days during his studies can he apply at that time then leave?

It's too early to apply for renewal on December 6, 2026 (unless his legal name change). Usually people apply up to 9 months before the expiration date.

He can apply while in Canada if less than 9 months until their PR card expires but would likely have to pick up the card in person.
