Dear All;
I will apply for my PR renewal as I have completed the 731 RO. I need to travel few days after applying. I need to know if travelling would cause a problem with my renewal application ?. The problem is that I have an important business to attend to overseas and cant wait till I receive my new PR.
Appreciate your insight and recommendations.

That complicates things and makes your situation risky. First of all, since you are applying with just over the minimum required residency days, you can expect your PR card to go into secondary review where CIC will review your residency very closely to ensure you meet the residency requirement. You should expect the processing of your renewed PR card to take much longer than normal. This means that you'll need to obtain a PRTD in order to return to Canada by plane. However if your residency is under review, then it may be quite difficult to get a PRTD approved. In that case your only option for returning will be to fly to the US instead (you may need a US visa) and to then re-enter Canada by land using a private vehicle.

Thank you very much for the information. I didn't know about a secondary review. Is there any risk with regards to my PR status if it does go to a secondary review?. whatever happen I dont want to risk losing my status, even though I am stuck and cant postpone my travel engagement (which is basically my mother being in a critical health & require some assistance.

You should read through the posts in the Permanent Residency Obligation section of the forum. There are people who have waited anywhere from many months to over a year due to secondary review.

Yes - there's always some risk to your PR status. Specifically, if you have made any mistakes and not correctly calculated your residency days and end up not having enough, this will put your PR status in jeopardy.
