Hi members,

I've become a PR on Sep 2008, have been living in Canada on and off but together I stayed more than 2 years out of 5 from landing date till now. My PR card is going to expire in Oct 2013, my question is

1) am I giving myself enough time to get a new PR card if I go back to Toronto and send the application in April 2013?

2) what if the new PR card is issued after my old PR card expiry date, how can I come back to Canada?

Thanks!

As you have completed 730 days already you can apply for new PR card before its expiry.

1. If you have 730 physical presence days in the 5 years prior to the renewal application then apply but as per CIC the earliest you can apply is when you have 1 year or less validity on your current PR Card.

2. If your PR Card expires before the renewed card then to return to Canada - (i) if visa exempt get a return flight and explain your situation at the airport, (ii) if not visa exempt then apply for a Travel Document at the Canadian Visa post or if you have/can get a US visa cross at a land border and explain your situation there.
