Hi All,

I am living in Canada. I landed ini Mar 2018 and I'll be completing my 730/5yrs around Feb2023. So Can I apply for renewal? It says that you can apply before 9 months when your PR Card will be expiring. I will easily complete 730 days before Mar2023 or Do I need to wait till Feb 2023 to complete 730 days first? Please let me know

Yes you can apply up to 9 months early if you are currently compliant with your RO.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
But...what happens when the new card is actually ready and/or mailed? That card would have an issue date that signifies when the validity of that 5 year term commences. Would that not mean that the old card is no longer valid, even if the actual expiry day on that old card may not have passed? If that's true, the PR would be abroad and in possession of an expired card, because they were unable to receive the new card in the mail.

Might make for an interesting trip back to Canada (more of an issue with an airline rather than CBSA)?

Discussed here but no definite consensus:

So, perhaps it all depends on what the commercial carrier sees in their system when attempting to return to Canada.

Hi, If someone apply PR renewal card and travel outside of Canada and in the meanwhile If PR card arrived via mail and somehow person got in the different country then will there be an issue in returning?

The old card will no longer be valid once the new card has been issued.
