Hello everyone
I'm trying to apply and renew my PR card using the online renewal portal. (first time). When I get to the "5.5 Time spent away from Canada", the period to be assessed is greyed out. The greyed out period defaults to 5 years from current day and the there's a red attention symbol underneath that says:
"Please review the date you entered in response to “1.4 Date you became a PR in Canada” on page 1 of this form. This date must be accurate before proceeding with the rest of the form."
When I enter the dates (all vacation time), it also remains greyed out and will not allow me to click "complete and return to application".
It does not let me start a new application because it says I've began editing nor is does it give me access to the "confirmation of permanent residency" in the category drop down menu which I thought might be needed due to my absence from residency for so many years.
The date on item 1.4 is accurate; I used my original landing date of July 12th, 2001. Back then, I was issued an original PR card and one renewal, then moved outside Canada in 2007 so the PR card lapsed. I returned to reestablish residency in October, 2020 using a PR travel document to satisfy COVID travel restrictions. Upon return, I applied by mail for a new PR card with no problems. It was approved in early 2021. I don't believe there was an online renewal portal yet.
I've seen a post on this topic from 2023 and tried all the supposed solutions and none of them worked.
Has anyone had the same issue recently and can anyone help? I've booked travel for winter 2026 and must be able to get a new card
In the worst case, does anyone know if I can still fill out and print the application along with lots of documents and send by courier? There is still an address on the website for this
Would very much appreciate all responses. Thanks !!
