Dear friends,

My current PR card expires in June. Unfortunately, I have been only visiting Canada for short periods every year as I was doing a post-doc abroad.
Despite not fulfilling the PR residency requirement, on advice from a dodgy immigration advisor I applied for renewal of the PR card (I really regret this). Now my new PR card is ready for collection, but in the letter they have requested me to take all supporting documents for collection.
Also, in the letter it reads that the new PR card would be destroyed if not collected within 180 days.
My post-doc finished last year and now I am planning to move to Canada permanently.
I am planning to arrive to Canada just about a week before the expiry date of my current PR card. I've been told I should stay there for 2 years and then to apply for a new PR card again.
My questions are:
1- Should I refer to collect my new PR card at all? or I would better off to leave it to be destroyed and then I apply again when I've been in Canada for 2 years?
2- Supposing I apply for a new PR card after 2 years, will I be eligible for applying for citizenship 1 year afterwards?
3- Is there anything that I should be aware of?

I really appreciate any advice that you may give me.
Many thanks.

1. If you know you don't meet the requirements and can not provide the documents they ask for, you will probably be better off not picking it up.

2. Yes, if you stay for 2 years, you can apply for a PR card again and after 1 more year, 3 years total, you can apply for citizenship.

3. Do not apply for a PR card again until you have your 2 years.
