PR parents, newborn outside Canada, urgently want wife & baby to join me

Hi everyone,

I need help from this group, My wife and I are both Canadian PRs. I recently returned to Canada for work.

My wife and infant baby are still in India. I’m really struggling to live alone without them, and I want them here as soon as possible.

Problem:
Our baby does not have PR or a TRV yet. I understand the PR sponsorship/PR application process takes time, but I want to know the fastest possible way to bring them here.

My idea:

• Apply for my baby’s PR immediately.
• At the same time, apply for a TRV for the baby.
• In the TRV application, clearly explain that PR is already applied, but due to family separation and my current situation, we are requesting a TRV so the baby can travel to Canada sooner.

My question:
Is this the best approach?
Has anyone here done PR + TRV together for a newborn?
Is there any faster or recommended option to get my wife and baby here urgently (even within days, if possible)?

Won’t happen within days but yes it is your best attempt to have them join you. By having your child outside of Canada you must have been aware that there would likely be a period of separation.

I was in same position couple months ago.
I applied TRV first. When it was approved, I brought my child here to Canada, then I applied outland sponsorship (but living in Canada) for faster processing time.

However, one big thing you have to pay attention is the health insurance for the baby. If you live in BC, you only need PR application fee receipt to get a temporary coverage for about 9-10 months. But if you live in ON (OHIP as the health insurance), then you should apply Inland instead of Outland. Because in order to have OHIP asap, you need your baby's AIP (Approved In Principle), and you only have that with Inland. I have no idea about other prrovinces.
